Retracing Home
Embroidered Photography
Retracing Home is a collection of both found family photos, and current photos taken of my family home, edited and embroidered to explore the complexities of family relationships and memories. All taken in my hometown of Winona, Minnesota, the found photos include embroidered figures representing my family as they lived in my childhood. This retraces a memory from the past, while also giving the old photo a new life, meaning, and memory. This work expresses a grief over childhood, and a search to find or relive those simple memories again. These photos were inspired by, and made to pay homage to photographer Maurizio Anzeri.
Intimate Spaces & Intimate Conversations

These shadow boxes were created after having conversations with women both in my family, and in my community about their experiences with domestic violence. The small, intimate spaces are representative of the safety, vulnerability, and confidentiality of these conversations

These works were created while reflecting on patriarchal cycles of violence I inherited as a child and a young woman. This was my first step in researching the way cycles of caregiving and domestic violence came to myself and the women in my family.
